Community Engagement Message from the Executive Director

Greetings, Everyone,

I hope this finds you well!

Remarkably, we are now through two months of stay-at-home orders and, as a historically resilient breed, we continue to find new and innovative ways to work, shop, play, love, mourn, and engage with our families and with our local and global communities.  Every day we hear stories of incredible courage and wholehearted kindness.  These glimmers of profound bravery and compassion inspire me onward.  I’m grateful each morning, though knowing the challenges ahead.

I want to thank all of our dedicated followers who continue to send positive messages.  These notes are our talisman,  reminders of our commitment to you.

Although the Barnum Museum is not part of Connecticut’s initial opening phase on May 20th (we are not an “outdoor” attraction), we are continuing our work to ensure the Barnum Museum remains invincible in the face of this ongoing emergency.  We are observing all regulations, guidelines and precautions to safeguard the national landmark and collection for you and for future generations, and we are actively fundraising to evolve for post-COVID life-styles.  New, virtual programming is being developed that will make ‘all things Barnum’ more accessible and tantalizing to an even broader audience.  We’re working toward expanding our social media presence to provide livestream programming and ‘in-time’ Q&A opportunities with staff, guest scholars and notable personalities.  Please remain patient as we spearhead these new initiatives.

Your ongoing support and encouragement is invaluable to our spirit and enthusiasm.

Once again, I extend our sincerest gratitude.

Stay well, stay strong!

Kathleen Maher,
Executive Director
