Community Engagement Message from the Executive Director

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

I wish you all an enjoyable and safe holiday weekend—though this is a very different Fourth from all others in our history, hopefully each of us will find ways to think about and celebrate the ideals of freedom and democracy that Independence Day commemorates.

Of course, I absolutely must give a shout-out to P. T. Barnum since July 5th marks the 210th anniversary of his birthday.  So . . .

“Happy Birthday, P. T.!”

I’ve always felt that July 5th was a fitting birthday for a man so devoted to the advancement of our country, which in his time was still a very young nation.  The large family photo included here was taken on the occasion of Barnum’s 65th birthday, July 5, 1875.

This week’s blog spotlights General Tom Thumb on stage as we learn more about his performances in France.  If you are a new subscriber and wish to catch up on our current series (beginning April 11, 2020), please visit our blog page.

Stay well, stay strong, and enjoy the holiday!

Executive Director
